Robertson Amazes In May Daze 150

Altamahaw, NC:  Ryan Robertson and his #31 Sheetz Chevrolet amazed the crowd at Ace Speedway Friday night when he blew past the competition to land the pole for the May Daze 150 with a top time of 15.650 seconds on the four-tenths mile track.  Robertson held a strong position for most of the race, and crossed the finish line in seventh place among the twenty car
field.

Starting at the head of the pack of the late model endurance race, Robertson quickly dominated and led the first 30 laps.  Robertson was fourth by the time the competition caution came at lap 100, and the Sheetz racing team swung into action to make
further adjustments and keep Robertson near the top of the 20 car field.

After a caution-filled final 50 laps, the Sheetz Chevrolet received damage to the exhaust system causing leakage and exposing Robertson to carbon monoxide fumes.  Robertson endured, and managed to avoid significant damage to the car, crossing the finish line on the lead lap and in seventh place for the night.

“This was a true endurance race for me,” said Robertson.  “I knew something was wrong and I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it to the end, but knowing my team had worked so hard I just couldn’t give up.”

Team owner and crew chief, Mike Robertson, said that he was impressed with the performance by both the Sheetz race team and especially his young driver.  “Ryan is a true endurance driver and will always do what it takes to get the best finish out of any race that he competes in,” said Robertson.  “It’s been a great season so far.  He really knows how to rise to the occasion.”

Robertson most recently appeared with the Sheetz #31 Chevrolet in the Denny Hamlin Foundation Race at Richmond International Raceway in April, where he finished 18th in a star-studded field with many Sprint Cup regulars.

Robertson’s next significant appearance will be at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he will run the #23 Timothy D. Welborn/ICE Epilepsy Chevrolet during the NASCAR K&N Series visit that weekend.  His sponsor for that
race is the title sponsor for the festivities on Friday night, June 3.  Robertson will run in the Sportsman Race that night, a division that he has held the lead in before at the famed quarter-mile track.
